  • Japanese Machine Converts Plastic to Oil
    Published: August 24, 2010
    Source: Big Think
My Note: Great news! So the Earth will not end into a dump of plastic bags after all.
The perils of plastic are nothing new to most of us. A lesser-known fact, however, is that plastic has a higher energy value than just about any other type of waste. To harness this energy while addressing the waste problem, Japanese company Blest has created a machine that converts several types o...
  • It sounds impossible, but air-purifying roads get real
    Published: August 20, 2010
My Note: This smells good. :)
It sounds like the kind of technology you'd see on The Jetsons (well, you know, if the Jetsons drove on roads), but a group of researchers in Germany have created "Air Clean" slabs that help reduce the detrimental impact of cars and trucks.
  • Google: There Are 129,864,880 Books in the Entire World

How many books have ever been published in all of modern history? According to Google’s advanced algorithms, the answer is nearly 130 million books, or 129,864,880, to be exact. We’ll admit it’s practically impossible to count every book that has ever been written, but in order for Google Book...
  • #5: Stephen Hawking's Warning: Abandon Earth—Or Face Extinction
    Published: August 6, 2010
    Source: Big Think
Let's face it: The planet is heating up, Earth's population is expanding at an exponential rate, and the the natural resources vital to our survival are running out faster than we can replace them with sustainable alternatives. Even if the human race manages not to push itself to the brink of ...Rea...
  • #3: Erase Traumatic Memories (and Achieve Your Own “Eternal Sunshine”)
    Published: August 4, 2010
    Source: Big Think
My Note: I wonder... If we learn from our past experiences, erasing them will it be a good option?
“Blessed are the forgetful: for they get the better even of their blunders.” When philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche wrote this in 1885, he couldn't have imagined that one day people might join the blessed ranks of the forgetful simply by swallowing a pill. Yet this may soon be a reality; several...
  • BBC News - Mars site may hold 'buried life'
    Published: July 30, 2010
My Note: Yay! But the little green people are loooooooooooong time gone. How long? Like in 4 billion years long.
Researchers identify rocks that they say could contain the fossilised remains of life on early Mars.
  • Gorgeous Mercury bullet train would be England's fastest
    Published: July 14, 2010
My Note: Can trains be sexy? Yes, they can!
This high-speed train design by Priestmangoode is aimed at becoming the new speedy way of getting around the UK. Dubbed the Mercury Train, it would zip around at speeds of up to 225MPH.

(More …)

(More …)
